One of the best University in Asia. Great place to be challenged, learn, and grow. A safe environment to fall and fail. Lots of support and resources available but you need to take the initiative to reach out about them.
After a long and determined struggle, the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) was established in 1986. It stood as the sole university of its kind during that period, commencing its journey on the 1st Phalgun (13th of February 1991) with a modest lineup of three departments: Physics, Chemistry, and Economics. Accompanied by 13 dedicated educators and 205 eager students, SUST embarked on its educational odyssey. Over time, the university has grown significantly, evolving into an institution with 7 schools, 27 departments, and two institutes. The once limited faculty has flourished to a commendable 566, while the student body has impressively expanded to 8596.
In addition to these accomplishments, the University boasts 12 affiliated medical colleges under the School of Medical Sciences, educating a vast population of 4000 medical students. Pioneering educational reforms, SUST introduced the integrated honors course, a groundbreaking initiative in Bangladesh. Furthermore, the semester system was adopted from the 1996-97 academic session, leading to a notable enhancement in the quality of education both within the campus and at the national level.
Emphasizing the importance of language and computer literacy, SUST mandates that every student undertakes two language courses - one in Bangla and another in English. Additionally, two computer courses are required, one for computer literacy and the other for learning a computer language. The university's computer center is renowned for providing comprehensive courses to its employees, solidifying SUST's reputation as the most IT-enabled university in the country.
SUST has also made significant strides in its graduate programs, offering master's degrees to students graduating from various departments. Despite the challenges of establishing a world-class research program without extensive funding, the dedicated faculty at SUST is tirelessly working to foster a thriving research environment within the campus. As a testament to their efforts, two research journals are published regularly by SUST - one in Bangla and the other in English, featuring hundreds of research papers submitted annually.
Moreover, several departments have taken the initiative to host International Conferences, demonstrating SUST's commitment to scholarly engagement on the global stage. Looking ahead, the university plans to organize more such events in the near future, further elevating its status in the academic community.
