My duty station was Dhaka, Bangladesh, from August 2021 until August 2023, when I was working with one of the UN agencies. I didn't have any meaningful social interactions during those times, due to blatant racism that I encountered on a daily basis, from almost all levels of Dhaka' society: rickshaw pullers, restaurant attendants, shopkeepers, security guards, etc. Therefore, I had to seek refuge, in order to provide my mental well-being with balance. For most of my adult life, books have been my staple refuge. Undoubtedly, I could tell the moment was heavenly when I found a Bookworm outlet at Old Airport Road. However, I couldn't make any stop after the 'discovery' due to the fact that I had always passed the section after my physiotherapy sessions in Lalmatia, and on my way to my apartment in Gulshan-2. Then came the good news, that Bookworm relocated to Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park, Gulshan-2, which was within a walking distance from my place. From that moment on, I frequented Bookworm, especially to find books on the India-Pakistan partition. Since reading Urvashi Butalia's work, I became interested in the history of The Partition of India and Pakistan (1947). I started hunting for books on this theme at Big Bad Wolf, when working in Puducherry, South India, when visiting my boyfriend (at that time) in New Delhi, and when working in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Bookworm and some other bookstores in Dhaka, introduced me to the history of "Second Partition", namely the separation of East Pakistan from West Pakistan, which later became Bangladesh (1971). This is regarding the fact that books on those topics are marked with "for sale in the Indian subcontinent only". Therefore, those genres hardly ever made it to Indonesia, where I am from. I would forever cherish my visits to Bookworm in Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed Park. When I finished my duty, I shipped those books to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, using DHL. Since then, the books have proudly become a part of my personal library. I would definitely stop by for a book shopping spree should I ever come back to Dhaka. Heartfelt thanks, Bookworm Bangladesh, for providing my mental wellbeing with delicate balancing during the time I was stationed there. Until we meet again!

It's a very beautiful and a cozy bookstore. They have huge varieties of authentic books. The interior is very pretty. Must-visit place if you are a book lover.

Book Worm at North End Coffee Roasters is a cozy and inviting place for book lovers. The space is nicely decorated, making it a great spot to relax. It has a good collection of books, so there's always something interesting to read. If you are a book lover and want to spend time with books, it's a wonderful place to visit.

The best English language bookstore in Dhaka undoubtedly. They have a huge collection and constantly adding as well. The park around it, along with a cafe, adds much more to the ambience. If you're looking for original English novels, poetry books or such, you won't find a better alternative.

Loved this place! They’ve got a really nice collection of books, and the staff are super helpful and friendly. If you’re not sure what to pick, they’ll actually help you find something good. Great vibe overall — definitely worth checking out if you’re into books and around Dhaka.
