Duncan Brothers is a Camellia Plc group company, which in addition to Bangladesh has investments in the UK, India, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, Malawi, Switzerland, the US, the Netherlands and Bermuda. The investments are diversified, however agriculture and horticulture is Camellia’s core business. Camellia produces nearly 80 million kgs of tea which makes it one of the world's largest and the most geographically diversified producers of tea in the private sector. "Camellia sinensis", the tea plant, is of major commercial importance as tea is made from its leaves. It is an exquisite name, for a remarkable gift of nature, both in terms of aesthetic beauty and the multiple benefits derived from the bush. The name in essence also reflects the Group’s philosophy and objectives where humane considerations are equally important as its business. This is what makes the Group unique with a long history of 150 years in the subcontinent. The primary and overall strategic direction of the Group has always been to be an asset based agricultural company with a focus on the long term. Source: Duncan's website.

Great hospitality, nice and antique decorations...
In the distant past, a remarkable tale began, tracing back 150 years to when the intrepid Duncan brothers, Walter and William, ventured all the way from Glasgow to Calcutta in 1859. With ambitious dreams and entrepreneurial spirit, they established their business roots in the bustling city.
During those times, the allure of the tea trade began to weave its magic, drawing the Duncan Brothers towards this burgeoning and profitable enterprise. As the years unfolded, tea became the cornerstone of their business endeavors, evolving into their primary focus.
Throughout the one and a half centuries of Duncan Brothers' existence, a myriad of significant events unfolded – partnerships shifted, ownership changed hands, and mergers took place. These transformative experiences ultimately led the company to be incorporated into the prestigious Lawrie Group Plc., before finally becoming a part of the esteemed Camellia Plc.
At the heart of Duncan Brothers' operations stood 'Two Leaves and a Bud,' symbolizing their core involvement in the tea industry. However, in 1985, a pivotal decision was made to embrace diversification. Thus, United Insurance and United Leasing emerged as part of their expanding portfolio. Subsequently, a series of innovative ventures followed suit, gradually molding the company into a multifaceted conglomerate with diverse business interests.
Today, Duncan Brothers reigns as a prominent group in Bangladesh, boasting an extensive and varied portfolio. Their remarkable enterprises span various industries, collectively providing employment opportunities to around 18,500 individuals across their organizations.
