It’s been years that I have had this desire of visiting this place for, but it was only July the 4th this year that I finally was there on. Better late than never! The place is simply amazing. It’s spacious, so mindfully decorated, great ambience, minimal interior design, and it has all the elements to make you feel welcome and comfortable. I loved it a lot. Yes, it’s expensive, kind of, but for this quality I was more than happy (mmm, or maybe not this much, haha) with the price we were paying for the food. Mineral water is served free here which is admirable. You will have a wide variety of different options to choose from. It’s a two-storied building. We had a table at the ground floor. We ordered bento box. Everything tasted excellent. My best experience with Japanese food in Dhaka has been with “Samdado” until then. But I would say “Izumi” is a class of its own. I always joked that it’s a place where you don’t go to eat with your own money, rather you go with someone who pays for you. But after this first visit, I think I’m more than willing to pay for myself the next time I’m there. And there will be a lot of “next time” like that here, I believe.

Izumi means fountain/ springs. This restaurant in Gulshan-1, Dhaka-1212, is serving authentic Japanese cuisine with great taste. The ambience created for the guests is amazing. Having dinner, after a long working week, it's a perfect place to remove the tiredness and recharge yourself with a lot of positive energy. The hospitality of well trained people will impress you. Food quality is very good.

Had a wonderful experience at Izumi. We ordered salmon, tuna, and scallop nigiri. The fish was vibrant in color, and the rice beneath was perfectly balanced with vinegar, i loved how the wasabi and soy sauce brought the whole thing together so well. I enjoyed every bite. However, wasabi was slightly stale and didn't have the expected punch as much. I wanted to taste a cuttlefish. It was very enjoyable. Every bite was soft and not rubbery, as you might expect from a variant of squid. I would love to visit again and taste more items.

Visited this place again on 21 May 2024. Had Salmon Avocado, Salmon sashimi, Maki platter and fresh Juices. Food quality was excellent as usual, ambience etc has improved over time. Still stays as one of the most premium Japanese restaurants in Dhaka with excellent quality of food and service.

About Izumi

Once upon a sunny afternoon at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka, two bosom buddies, Sadat Medhi and Ali Arsalan, were engrossed in a thrilling game. As they carefully strategized their approach shot on the tricky par 4 hole, an idea began to take shape - an idea that would later be known as Izumi.

The very next day, Sadat's long-time friend, Romo, joined the duo for a short visit to the same spot where the idea was conceived. The serendipitous moment filled them with excitement, and in just a matter of minutes, they made a resolute decision to embark on a bold venture - opening a top-notch Japanese restaurant.

Determined to turn their dream into reality, Sadat bid farewell to his job at the Denim factory and wholeheartedly immersed himself in the Izumi project. Taking on the role of manager, he skillfully orchestrated the day-to-day operations with finesse. Not only that, but he also honed his culinary skills and baking prowess, making him an exceptionally knowledgeable baker and chef.

As the concept of Izumi took firmer shape, another dear friend, Rezwan, enthusiastically joined the burgeoning team. With his invaluable contributions, the group began to feel more complete, sharing a strong bond of friendship and a shared vision.

But it was fate that brought the pivotal moment - a stroke of luck that connected them with Michael Allan. As luck would have it, Michael had previously owned a quaint restaurant in Tokyo, giving him a wealth of knowledge in sourcing the finest raw materials and assembling a team of talented chefs and consultants. His expertise was the missing piece that fit perfectly into the puzzle of Izumi's creation.

Above all, Izumi is a project fueled by love and passion. The genuine camaraderie among Sadat, Ali, Romo, Rezwan, and Michael forms the beating heart of this culinary venture. Their collective dedication and fervor are infused into every dish and every aspect of the restaurant, creating an inviting ambiance and an unforgettable dining experience for all who walk through Izumi's doors.

In essence, Izumi is not just a Japanese restaurant; it is a testament to friendship, a celebration of dreams realized, and a place where love for food and people intertwine harmoniously.
