National Tea is arguably the best tea in Bangladesh. However, hardly anyone could find this on the market. Whenever I go to swapno I try to look for it, and when I find it I try to buy it in bulk quantities. They would have dominated the market if they could ensure proper supply. Sadly, this represents the government run business organizations, superior product but no effort in marketing and supply chain.

About National Tea Company Limited

In 1978, National Tea Company Ltd. was established as a Public Limited Company, falling under the provisions of the Companies Act of 1913. This unique venture emerged as a result of a joint partnership between the Government and the General Public, marking the pioneering collaboration between public and private interests in the Tea sector. The ownership structure was structured such that the Government and its financial organization held a majority stake of 51% of the shares, while the remaining 49% was held by the General Public.

At its inception, the company operated with nine prominent "A"-class tea estates, all of which were located in the Sylhet division. These estates included Patrakhola, Kurmah, Champarai, Madanmohanpur, Madabpur, Jagadishpur, Teliapara, Chundeecherra, and Lackatoorah. After the war of Liberation, the ownership of these estates was transferred to the Government, and the management and operation were entrusted to the former Bangladesh Tea Industry Management Committee. The Chairman of the Tea Board served as the ex-officio Chairman of this Committee.

Following a governmental decision, three additional Tea Estates, namely Parkul, Premnagar, and Bejoya, were integrated into the Company in September 1982.

National Tea Company Ltd. has been a listed entity since 1978, and its shares are actively traded on both the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges.
