It's the Best college in Bangladesh. I am very excited for doing classes in this College following on 30 July, 2024. I'm HSC-26 Batch, Notre Dame College, Dhaka.
In the heart of Lakshmibazar, Dhaka, a noble institution named Notre Dame College was founded in November 1949. Its establishment was a response to the prevailing educational crisis in the nascent East Pakistan. This venerable institution owed its origins to the Roman Catholic Priests of the Congregation of Holy Cross, led by Archbishop Graner, CSC, who sought to address the dearth of educational opportunities in the region. The Archbishop, recognizing the need for a college, extended a heartfelt invitation to the Congregation of Holy Cross Priest Society to establish and administer this vital educational center.
Initially known as St. Gregory College, an extension of the pre-existing St. Gregory School under the same Congregation, the college moved to its present location in Motijheel in 1954 and was bestowed with the name Notre Dame College. This new appellation was a tribute to the esteemed University of Notre Dame, alma mater to several esteemed faculty members. Interestingly, in French, "Notre Dame" translates to "Our Lady," a profound reference to Mother Mary.
The founding principles of this esteemed institution revolved around two core objectives. Firstly, to provide higher education to Christian students, and secondly, to impart quality and values-based education to students, thereby fostering the progress of the nation. Guided by the ideals of social justice, particular attention has always been given to students facing economic challenges, hailing from rural or marginalized backgrounds, or dealing with other adverse circumstances, who might otherwise miss out on such opportunities for quality education.
The educational vision of Notre Dame College goes beyond mere academics. It seeks to instill in its students a profound love for God, country, and wisdom, while also placing significant emphasis on character development. Here at Notre Dame, a sense of familial unity pervades, where students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and administrative personnel form an integral part of the Notre Dame Family. This familial bond is nurtured through mutual respect, love, shared responsibilities, and a collective dedication to the holistic growth of the students. Every member of the Notre Dame Family carries out their duties with sincerity, competence, and compassion, adding a unique and endearing dimension to the institution.
The pride of Notre Dame College extends beyond its exceptional board exam results. Equally admirable is the institution's commitment to providing opportunities to underprivileged students, including those from impoverished and tribal backgrounds, hailing from various corners of the country.
Remarkably, despite the absence of financial aid from the government of Bangladesh, Notre Dame College thrives through its reliance on tuition fees and occasional support from loans and grants from the Congregation of Holy Cross.
In conclusion, Notre Dame College stands as a beacon of educational excellence, founded on principles of compassion, justice, and a deep commitment to shaping young minds into responsible and enlightened individuals, capable of contributing positively to their nation and beyond.
