About Rajshahi College

Rajshahi College stands as a venerable bastion of higher learning in Bangladesh, boasting a long and illustrious history dating back to its establishment in 1873, thanks to the generous financial support of Raja Haralal Roy Bahadur of Dubalhati. It was Raja Haranath Roy who graciously donated the land that laid the foundation for this esteemed institution. The property's annual income, amounting to five thousand rupees, further contributed to the college's growth.

Over time, Rajshahi College rapidly emerged as a focal point for higher education, drawing students from East Bengal, North Bengal, Bihar, Purnia, and Assam. Its influence spread far and wide, making it a significant center of learning in the region.

Pioneering in the educational landscape, Rajshahi College took the lead by introducing bachelor and honors degree programs in various disciplines as early as 1878. Remarkably, in 1993, it took another historic stride by initiating Masters degree courses. Aspiring students seeking higher knowledge found solace in the diverse offerings of the college, which has remained affiliated with the prestigious National University.

Guided by the Ministry of Education, the college's daily operations adhere to well-defined guidelines. Although Rajshahi College ceased enrolling Higher Secondary students in 1996, it resumed this practice during the 2010-2011 academic session, renewing its commitment to nurturing young minds.

Standing as a testament to its time-honored legacy, Rajshahi College ranks as the third oldest college in Bangladesh, surpassed only by Dhaka College and Chittagong College. Notably, it holds the distinction of being the first institution in the region, which now comprises Bangladesh, to grant Masters degrees—an achievement that underscores its dedication to advancing education.

Presently, Rajshahi College continues to offer three-year bachelor and four-year honors degree courses in various fields, drawing ambitious scholars to its gates. Situated conveniently in the city center, the college shares its vicinity with the esteemed Rajshahi Collegiate School and the renowned Barendra Museum, enhancing the intellectual ambiance of the region.
