About Bangladesh Environment Movement-BAPA

Established in 2000, Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) aims to build a nationwide, united, and strong civic movement to safeguard Bangladesh’s environment. The country’s environmental condition is deteriorating rapidly. Urban air pollution is worsening, groundwater is becoming contaminated, and surface water bodies are increasingly polluted, encroached upon, and degraded. Various forms of waste—including solid, liquid, gaseous, and hazardous materials—are overflowing, while forests and open spaces are vanishing. Rising noise pollution, declining biodiversity, and worsening public health due to pollution are becoming serious concerns.

If these environmental issues are not controlled and reversed, they will gradually hinder Bangladesh’s economic, social, cultural, and human development, ultimately making the country uninhabitable. Unfortunately, government initiatives have been insufficient in addressing these challenges. In some cases, poorly planned and executed government projects, coupled with corruption and weak governance, have further exacerbated the crisis. BAPA continues to advocate for stronger and more effective measures to combat these environmental threats.
