One of the most organized and impactful NGOs in the Satkhira region. They are doing amazing work for climate-vulnerable people. Excellent hospitality and a very knowledgeable team. Proud to contribute my visual stories to their mission.

We spend a few nights in the Ledards Guesthouse. Everything was very well organised, the rooms are clean and comfortable and everything works well. The food also was very delicious and the staff were punctual with the timing of the food. A very good place to stay if you are in Shyamnagar for business, at a very reasonable rate. Currently, there are only 4 rooms available. The surroundings are very quiet, lots of trees and birds to wake you up in the morning. There is also a demo farm in the compound. The NGO Ledars is doing some great work around desalinisation of water for drinking purposes, and delivering this to the villages using a small tuk tuk. Great initiative.

About LEDARS-Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society

Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society (LEDARS) is a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to the social, economic, and environmental development of underprivileged and marginalized communities in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh since 1996. Originally known as Gana Unnayan Shangstha (GUS), the organization rebranded as LEDARS in 2007 in compliance with government regulations and to avoid duplication with another NGO registered under the NGO Affairs Bureau.

During the early 1990s, unplanned shrimp farming, river erosion, and recurring natural disasters forced many coastal residents to migrate to urban areas in search of a better livelihood. In response, LEDARS evolved from a local club into a development organization, committed to supporting vulnerable communities by securing their livelihoods and advocating for their rights.

LEDARS is officially registered under the Social Welfare Department and the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh.
