Senior doctors are good enough. Environment is average. The receptionists lack manner. But, they take good care of patients. I had to stay here for five days with my family patient. We took a deluxe cabin. My experience was good. Nurses come frequently to check out patients saline, medicines and other emergencies, nutritionists visit once in morning and duty doctors visit twice a day, patients meals and snacks come five times a day, their food is really tasty and healthy, cleaners and housekeepers come time to time. Hospital charge is a little bit high.

Location: Vobon 6, Floor 1 – Echo and Sonography, Popular Dhanmondi Branch I visited Popular with my parents for my mother’s heart (echocardiogram) and abdominal ultrasound. At the single counter for both services, both the male and female receptionists seemed very unpleasant. One male receptionist, in particular, behaved very badly toward my mother. He spoke in a harsh, intimidating tone and showed absolutely no respect. His behavior was aggressive, and his words and responses were completely inappropriate. Even with another elderly lady present, he acted the same way. There was no smile or polite attitude at all. We are paying for treatment, and regardless of anyone’s financial or social status, every patient deserves respect. Some patients are wealthy, some are poor; some are educated, some are not. We are paying for treatment, and we expect to be treated with respect. For an elderly patient, this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. How can a hospital staff member behave this way toward a patient, who is already vulnerable and dependent on care? Such behavior from hospital staff is deeply disappointing. We hope the management will take immediate action to ensure that all patients, especially the elderly, are treated with patience, kindness, and proper respect.

Nightmare at Popular Hospital Brutally commercial cages for patients. 75% rooms do not have a window. 25% rooms have window but not allowed to open. Poor ventilation with central AC. No access to fresh air. Extremely poor quality blankets. Patients are not allowed to bring their own blankets. Every single blood sugar test needle and strip costs approximately 30 taka, and patients not allowed to make their own tests. Patients are not allowed to have their own food. The only food allowed is whats available in the cafeteria, which is another source of profit. The cafeteria is open from 8am-10pm. Even the reusable thermometer is sold to the patients even if they do not need it. Patients are not allowed to have their own medicines and forced to take medicines made by Popular even though better medicines are available in every pharmacy. Good doctors prescribed good well renowned medicines but those are then changed within 2 hours to Popular branded medicine which require often an extra solvant for 50taka. There is security control in almost every door. Security is tighter than Bangladesh Bank. Patient attendants are harassed by security on a regular basis. During the day there is random security checks in all cabins on the number of attendants, food that is being ate, and unknown number of things. Ward boys, helpers and nurses are paid only 6000taka salary. They do not have any sitting or resting arrangements and lies on the floor on a piece of paper. They do deliver a very good service because the supervisor comes 5 to 6 times a day to the patients to ask if they have any complaints against helpers or nurses. Popular hospital has a fixed target quote for every cabin and uses ever possible measures to maximise profits from dying patients. These measures ranges from food, blanket, space, medicines, furnitures, lighting, ventilation, water... During admission the cash counter commented that the "cabins cannot stay empty, it must be filled to 100% with a waiting list" A commerce made out of people's health and desperation. The worst management in a horrible hospital!!! Amazing how profitable a hospital can be made by Dr. Mustafizur Rahman with just a MBBS and a talented business mind. Wonder if these management people also have a family, or loved ones? Do they also get sick?

Popular diagnostic centre is one of the reputed and oldest diagnostic centre in Dhaka city. Recently they have established a Medical College Hospital just beside of diagnostic centre. They have several branches inside and outside Dhaka city. Head branch is Dhanmondi. Most of the reputed specialist doctors have serve there. Treatment cost is high.
